Highlights of 2005

Posted by Kenneth Birch on December 31, 2005

A night a few months ago I was insomniac and instead started making lists. One of them was ‘Highlights of 2005’, which turned out to be a good idea. For then it became clear that this has, in fact, been a very eventful year. Perhaps not the best ever, but certainly not boring.

It’s been a year of studying, working, and lots of traveling: 4 continents, 6 countries. One new country (Singapore) and five new cities (Washington, St. Louis, Los Angeles, Adelaide, Singapore). Not bad at all.

Anyway, the list is probably incomplete, but here it is, in alphabetical (i.e., no particular) order:

  • Celebrating my 25th birthday
  • Choir trip, Norway
  • Christmas in Sydney, once again
  • City-break, Berlin
  • Clubbing with M and L
  • Discussing church politics with Dad
  • Getting to know S
  • Hanging out in Qantas Club lounges
  • Kangaroo Island, SA
  • Late summer with good friends, Aarhus
  • Leading worship, Aarhus Café Church
  • Learning Mandarin (well, just a little bit)
  • Long talks with K
  • Making new friends, Sydney
  • Meeting S and J in St. Louis
  • Mum visiting
  • Preaching at Vejlefjord
  • Renewed friendship with C
  • Surfing, Bondi Beach
  • Switchfoot concert, St. Louis
  • Working as intern, SPD

Thanks to all who made it possible, and Happy New Year! I look forward to seeing you next year.

  1. [...] Last New Year’s positive reminiscing proved a good exercise, so I thought I’d make it a tradition and look back at the good parts of the year. I could probably think of many things that would make 2006 seem sub-par, but focusing on the positive does actually yield a substantial output. [...]
